Tape Data Management (Encryption)
This sales play allows businesses the ability to expand data sharing whilst improving information security. Recent events including the HMRC’s well publicised data loss mean that businesses are focussed on securing customer and business data. Increasing government regulation requirements are driving the need to protect the information stored on off-site media such as tape cartridges. It has been estimated that the average “data breach” costs a business £47 per record lost. The HMRC child benefit data incident consisted of 25 million lost records. Costs incurred from a data breach include legal fees, call centre costs, lost employee productivity, regulatory fines, lost of investor confidence and customer losses. IBM was first to market with tape drive encryption in the form of the IBM TS1120 and this technology is now available on the LTO4 range of products.
