IBM Green Strategy

IBM Green StrategyIBM’s Energy Efficiency solutions, skills and services help deliver the highest possible compute performance for the lowest possible power consumption. IBM Solutions range from innovative power and cooling technologies to eco-friendly asset disposal services. By combining Green Audit Services, the Cool Blue product portfolio, Global Asset Recovery Service and IBM Global Finance, IBM can help clients to reduce costs.

IBM’s leadership in Green IT and Energy Efficiency uses the following processes to address a company’s energy efficiency:
Diagnose – Evaluate existing IT infrastructure for energy efficiency via Green Audits.
Build – Plan or update IT Infrastructure to be energy efficient and comply with government and industry regulations.
Virtualise – Simplify the IT infrastructure by consolidating work into fewer computers, increasing utilisation, which can significantly reduce energy and maintenance bills.
Manage – Management software and provisioning can reduce power consumption by up to 80%.
Cool – IBM patented technology for Rear Door Heat exchanger cooling doors utilises chilled water to reduce server room heat loads by up to 60%.

Cool Blue Products

With IBM Cool Blue technologies, systems use less power, generate less heat and use less energy to cool the system.

POWER6

IBM POWER6 processor based servers deliver outstanding performance per watt and innovative virtualization technologies. The Live Partition Mobility feature will provide the ability to move running partitions from one POWER6 server to another providing the capability to conserve power by moving workloads off underutilized servers to achieve optimal system utilization and energy efficiency.

POWER6 helps:

IBM Rear Door Heat exchanger

The IBM Rear Door Heat exchanger is designed to remove heat generated from the back of your computer systems before it enters the room. The efficient IBM Rear Door Heat exchanger, which takes heat from the rack with water, can substantially reduce the heat load coming from any IBM enterprise rack. Advantages include:

BladeCentre and Power Architecture Blades

The IBM BladeCenter infrastructure utilizes energy-efficient components and a shared infrastructure architecture, clients can realize lower power consumption when compared to many alternative designs. Calibrated Vectored Cooling capabilities enable dual paths of air to each component to improve uptime and longevity while also reducing wasteful air movement.

The IBM Power Configurator tool can help provide better sizing information for your solutions and allows you to estimate building and data-center electrical costs before you make a purchase.

IBM PowerExecutive enables you to measure, track and control server power consumption.
IBM PowerExecutive is an integrated hardware, software and firmware solution building block. PowerExecutive manages energy consumption, allowing you to control electricity costs for your business. It monitors and displays the collected power measurement data for individual servers. Additionally, it provides analysis of long-term power trends for all servers in the data center with IBM PowerExecutive installed.
